What Is Google Android Studio IDE?

Google surprised every Android developer by announcing Android Studio IDE, an integrated development environment. An IDE is an all-inclusive application for software development. The application was uncovered at Google I/O (15-17 May 2013). It is available for free to be tried as an early access preview.

So what does this mean for Eclipse, which is already being used as an open-source IDE in Android application development? Google has recommend that because the currently available version of the Studio IDE has been intended for early adopters and testers, there is no need to migrate your development to new tools at this time. Google is still supporting Eclipse as a primary platform for Android application development.

Android Studio IDE is based on the powerful, extensible IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition, which is already one of the most advanced Java IDEs available today. The software has been added with features, which are designed with keeping in mind the Android application development process. It will greatly simplify and optimize the entire process of software designing and development for the OS.

This IDE will also come with templates that can be used to build applications with standard Android look and feel. It has Lint, which is a tool to address version compatibility issues and other potential bugs. It also has ProGuard, which obfuscates code to hinder reverse engineering. The software also has Gardle, which is used as an automated tool in the process of Android mobile software development.

A blog of Android Developers Blog with title "Android Studio: An IDE built for Android" explains that the Studio IDE just not offers extensible build tools that fit you project requirements but also extends further to larger development environment. The blog further explains that the software has a powerful code editor to support features like advanced code refactoring, deep static code analysis and smart editing. The blog also mentions that the Studio IDE will soon include great drag-and-drop UI features and lets developers harness the power Google services.
